Low-flow fixture savings calculator
Pick what you would swap. We estimate the water and money it saves each year, using EPA WaterSense figures.
Assumptions: 5 flushes, 0.69 showers of 7.8 minutes each, per person per day (2016 Residential End Uses of Water Study). Toilet flow: WaterSense 1.28 gallons a flush versus the listed age group. Showerheads: WaterSense 2.0 gpm versus 2.5 gpm standard. Faucets: EPA's published 700 gallons a year per household for WaterSense bathroom faucets. Water cost uses the EPA 2024 national average of $16.83 per 1,000 gallons, water and wastewater combined.
How this calculator works
Pick which fixtures you would replace. Savings are the flow difference between your current fixture and a WaterSense one, multiplied by typical use per person (5 flushes and 0.69 showers of 7.8 minutes a day from the 2016 Residential End Uses of Water Study), then priced at the EPA's national average of $16.83 per 1,000 gallons.
Faucets use the EPA's published figure of 700 gallons a year per household.

How much water does a WaterSense toilet save?
WaterSense toilets use 1.28 gallons per flush or less, compared with 1.6 for the current federal standard and as much as 6 for very old toilets. EPA says replacing old toilets can save a family nearly 13,000 gallons a year.

They are limited to 1.5 gallons per minute versus the standard 2.2, which cuts flow by 30 percent or more. EPA estimates about 700 gallons a year saved per household.
